Most politicians can always be trusted to do what they feel is in their immediate and short term best interest. That includes the Republicans.
After losing so many house and senate seats, as well as the Presidency, they feel the country as a whole wants more centrist to left leaning candidates. So, they try to be centrist and left leaning candidates. =)

Seth, well I think that's ridiculous!! Then we might as well all be left wing thinkers...and I most certainly will not! :)
